(BENTON, IL) — A Thompsonville man was taken to the Franklin County Jail after deputies arrested him early Friday morning for allegedly breaking into and stealing items from some vehicles. Sheriff Don Jones says around 2:20 a.m., a deputy initiated an investigation of a suspicious person on foot in Thompsonville.  Aware of several recent vehicle burglaries happening in the early morning hours, it was suspected the reported person could be the perpetrator. At 4:20 a.m., the deputy attempted to stop and question a man riding a blue and silver mountain bike. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old James D. Muck, fled on the bike into a wooded area. Deputies were able to locate and arrest him after a brief manhunt. Deputies recovered items stolen from the vehicles as well as the stolen bike. Muck, who was on probation for burglary, was taken to jail. The sheriff says the investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
