(BENTON, IL) — Donald S. Boyce, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced Wednesday that 63 year old Larry D. Mays, of Mt. Vernon, IL, was recently sentenced to federal prison on gun and drug related charges. On May 25, 2017, Mays was sentenced to 84 months of imprisonment and three years’ supervised release following his imprisonment. Mays was charged in Count 1 of the indictment that on June 28, 2016, in Jefferson County, he was a convicted felon in possession of three separate firearms. Count 2 charged that on June 28, 2016, in Jefferson County, Mays knowingly and intentionally possessed with intent to distribute marijuana in violation of federal law. Count 3 charged that on June 28, 2016, in Jefferson County, Mays knowingly and intentionally possessed cocaine. The investigation in this case was conducted by the Joint Narcotics Unit of the Mt. Vernon Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
