House Approves Minimum Wage Increase

(Chicago, IL) — The Illinois House has passed a bill to raise the state’s minimum wage. The bill would scale up the minimum to 15-dollars-an-hour by 2022. State Representative Will Guzzardi of Chicago argued that the current minimum of eight-dollar-25-cents-an-hour or 16-thousand-dollars a year isn’t a living wage that allows someone to provide for a family. Critics say the bill will hurt small business and drive jobs from the state. The bill now goes back to the Senate for approval of House changes.
