Black Caucus Blocks Gun Offenders’ Crackdown

(Springfield, IL) — The Black Caucus in the Illinois House is using a parliamentary maneuver to stall a bill aimed at keeping repeat gun offenders in prison longer. The bill passed the House, 70-41, but State Representative Thaddeus Jones filed a motion to reconsider that vote, a motion that couldn’t be acted on because Jones left the floor. Black Caucus members say they want to add provisions to fund violence prevention and job programs.
