Tax Proposal May Mean Higher Cost For Landscaping, Snow Removal Services

(SPRINGFIELD, IL) — A proposed services tax could mean citizens in Illinois would pay more for landscaping services.  According to Scott Grams, the director of the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association, the tax rate, proposed at 6.25 percent, would be the broadest tax on landscape and snow removal in the United States.  The current proposed legislation that the Senate sent to the House earlier in the week does not include this proposal.  However, if the state legislature is forced to go back to the drawing board, it could mean a larger sum paid out for these services.  Many of the nearly 5,000 landscaping businesses in Illinois have less than five employees, which may create a burden on the businesses themselves regarding calculating the tax.
