(SALEM, IL) — A 37-year-old former Centralia man currently serving a 3-year prison sentence for felony domestic battery was sentenced to an additional 7 years in prison Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to the lesser of two sex offense charges against him. Shelton Mickens is currently being held in the Western Illinois Correctional Center where he has been since October 2015. In October 2016, Mickens was charged in Marion County court with Class 1 felony criminal sexual assault by force and Class 2 aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor victim. He pleaded guilty today in court to the Class 2 felony charge in exchange for the Class 1 charge being dismissed. In addition to the 7-year prison sentence, Mickens must serve 2-years mandatory supervised release after he completes his prison term. He was given credit for 201 days served and day-for-day good-time will apply.
