EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A southern Illinois judge has sentenced an 18-year-old to decades in prison for a fatal shooting when he was just 14. Madison County state’s attorney’s office says Mylan T. Newbern pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on Friday and was sentenced to 30 years in prison the same day. Prosecutors say Newbern shot Charles Weiss once in the chest in 2012 during an attempted robbery in Granite City.
