Stephen Douglas the subject of June 3 lecture at tomb

CHICAGO (AP) — Historian Graham A. Peck will discuss the progressive policies of Stephen A. Douglas in a free lecture June 3. Douglas is remembered mostly as the victor over Abraham Lincoln in the pivotal 1858 U.S. Senate race in Illinois who was vanquished by Lincoln for president in 1860. The event at the Douglas Tomb State Historic Site will mark the 156th anniversary of his death. It will be from 11 a.m. to noon.
