(Carbondale, IL)  —  Federal investigators are looking into whether Southern Illinois University’s budget cuts broke the rules regarding gender equity in college athletics.  The school yesterday confirmed it’s been warned about a Title Nine complaint filed by SIU’s former women’s tennis coaches.  SIU cut men’s and women’s tennis amid a wave of budget cuts late last year.  But the coaches say the move violated the federal requirement that any cuts to sports not impact women’s programs more than men’s.
