Illinois State Police Announce Roadside Safety Check Results

Carmi – Illinois State Police (ISP) District 19 Commander, Captain Cory Ristvedt, announces the results of a Roadside Safety Check (RSC) held in Wayne County from late night 05/13/2017 to early morning 05/14/2017. The RSC was conducted at Delaware Street and SW 7th Street in Fairfield, by District 19 officers. There were 18 total citations or arrests and 16 total written warnings including 8 insurance violations, 4 driver’s license violations, 6 registration offenses, 3 occupant restraint offenses, 2 DUI citations and another alcohol or drug related citation during this safety check. Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, and throughout the U.S., nearly 10,000 people die each year due to alcohol-impaired driving.  RSCs are designed to keep our roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road.  This project was funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
