(MT. VERNON, IL) — A 31-year-old Mt. Vernon man is in the Jefferson County Jail following a weekend arrest for alleged domestic battery and other charges. Jamie Damron was arrested just before 9 a.m. Friday after Mt. Vernon police officers responded to the area of the 500 block of Main for a report of a domestic battery in progress. While officers were en route, the offender and victim left in a vehicle southbound on South Sixth Street. A Jefferson County Deputy located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at the IGA gas station. MVPD officers arrived with the deputy, and while investigating the domestic battery, Damron reportedly attempted to walk away from officers.  Officers ordered Damron to stop and he reportedly refused their commands, resisted several officers, and after a brief struggle was taken into custody.  A couple of officers sustained minor abrasions, and a JCSO squad car was damaged during the struggle. During a search of Damron, officers allegedly located a loaded stolen firearm, cannabis, and drug equipment.  Further investigation reportedly led to the recovery of another firearm at an apartment where Damron had been earlier.  He has prior felony convictions in Missouri and remains in the Jefferson County Jail on charges of domestic battery, resisting causing injury to officer, criminal damage to state supported property, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of cannabis, and possession of drug equipment.
