Senate To Vote On Abortion Coverage

(Springfield, IL) — The Illinois Senate is expected to vote today on a bill to expand insurance coverage for abortions and to guarantee that abortion will remain legal in Illinois. The House has already approved the bill that would provide abortion coverage for state employees and for those on Medicaid. It would also ensure that abortion would remain legal in Illinois if the federal law is ever overturned. The bill has put Governor Rauner in a political bind because he opposes the measure, even though he said during his campaign that he would back such a bill because access to abortion shouldn’t be restricted by income.
