(MT. VERNON, IL) — Many brick and mortar stores are going by the wayside and now a local card and gift store is joining them. Over the past few years, Kirlin’s has shuttered many of their locations. The Mt. Vernon location will now join them with a closure date of June 25th.  The store’s corporate office announced the closure Wednesday citing declining sales.  A closeout sale will begin May 15th.  Kirlin’s moved to their current location next to Kroger from the Times Square Mall nearly 3½ years ago. According to a Chicago Tribune article from November 2016, the second generation Quincy based retailer bears the name of a family of brothers that are currently engaged in a bitter lawsuit. Locations in Jacksonville, Quincy, and in Macomb, where that location was established in 1948, are also among this round of closures.
