(FAIRFIELD, IL) — Two men are in the Wayne County Jail after sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at a Fairfield motel room and allegedly found synthetic drugs and cash. Early Wednesday morning sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant on a room at the Budget Inn in Fairfield and arrested 54-year-old Bradley V. Gammon, of Mt. Vernon, and 42-year-old Lance C. Welch, of Watson, for alleged possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance as well as on other drug-related charges. Deputies reportedly found approximately 20 grams of a-PVP — also known as bath salts — assorted drug paraphernalia, digital scales, and numerous plastic baggies. Also seized was $1,457 in cash and a 2002 GMC Envoy. Both Gammon and Welch were taken to the Wayne County Jail to await the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail. Welch is currently on probation for a 2012 conviction out of Shelby County for felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance. He also has a 2016 felony charge pending in Effingham County for possession of a controlled substance. Gammon has faced a long list of drug-related felonies across Southern Illinois over nearly 25-years but has only been convicted in a handful of cases.
