Southern Illinois ‘Cautiously Optimistic’ About Floods

(Murphysboro, IL)  —  There’s still too much water in the Big Muddy River, but not as much as first feared. Jackson County Emergency Management Director Derek Misener yesterday said the river was two-feet below where forecasters predicted. Misener said that’s good news. The river, however, is still almost 16-feet above flood stage. Further south in Alexander County, they’re waiting for the Mississippi River to peak over the weekend.
