(SALEM, IL) — An 18-year-old Mt. Vernon man is in the Marion County Jail after he was arrested for allegedly forcing his way into a Salem home as he fled from police. Donovan Hamilton was reportedly wanted on outstanding Jefferson and Marion county warrants when Salem police officers approached Tuesday at Bryan Memorial Park. Hamilton allegedly gave officers a false name and when the officers told him they knew his real name he reportedly fled the area on foot. Approximately 30 minutes later, police reportedly spotted Hamilton enter but then be forced out of a home in the 400 block of Boone Street. Officers were then able to apprehend Hamilton a short distance away and place him in custody. According to police, after Hamilton entered the Boone Street home he allegedly pushed the homeowner against a table in front of her children, causing minor injuries. She was then able to force Hamilton from the home and he was arrested soon after.
