Betty Morton

Betty Morton, 78, of Kell, passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, in Mt. Vernon. She was born April 10, 1939, in Jefferson County, Illinois, the daughter of Jesse and Martha (Jewell) Roberson.  On June 10, 1955, in Boyd, Illinois, in a ceremony officiated by Verniel Garren, she married Louis Morton, and he preceded her in death on June 5, 2012.  Throughout her life, she enjoyed camping, and was a homemaker and nurse’s aide. She is survived by three sons, Larry Morton and wife Carolyn of Salem, Bill Morton of Kell, and Steve Morton of Kell; four grandchildren, Janie Fowler and husband Mike of Mt. Vernon, Jessica Morton of Centralia, Candice Winkler and husband Bob of Patoka, and Kyle Hefley of Centralia; three Great-Grandchildren;  one brother, Don Roberson and wife Ann of Mt. Vernon;   two sisters, Nina Jones and husband Dale of Dix, and Shirley Finn of Texico;  and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Louis Morton, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Duane Morton; and one daughter, Mary Horn. In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites for Mrs. Morton have been accorded, and a private interment will be held at a later date, at Romine Prairie Cemetery.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Osborn Funeral Home, in Dix, and online condolences may be made at osbornfuneral.com, or on the funeral home’s Facebook page.
