Gail (Gordon) Mitchell, 49, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 4:28 P.M. at Barnes Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri surrounded by her children. Gail was born on January 18, 1968 to Jean Gordon of Indianapolis, Indiana and Leon McKinney of Chicago, Illinois.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Southtown Apostolic Church 1116 South 15th Street Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the church with Pastor James L. Gordon, Sr. and Associate Minister Gregory Graves officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
She leaves to treasure her children, Tristica Gordon of Indianapolis, Indiana, Carvell Gordon and his wife, Lakeia of Indianapolis, Indiana, Tevin Gordon of Indianapolis, Indiana, Dorvontis Gordon of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Migueal Gordon of Mount Vernon, Illinois; fiancé, Paul Turner of Mount Vernon, Illinois and his two children, Zataia Turner of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Darius Turner of Mount Vernon, Illinois, who Gail helped raise; mother, Jean Gordon of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Jahmere Gordon, Carvell Gordon, Jr., LaKendrick Settles, Kentrell Gordon, and Jahmora Watson-Gordon, all of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandmother, Dorothy Bradley of Mount Vernon, Illinois; siblings, Tammy Gordon of Indianapolis, Indiana, Angela Gordon of Indianapolis, Indiana; Jamie Clay of Indianapolis, Indiana, Charles Jennings of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Michael McKinney of Mount Vernon, Illinois; uncle, Pastor James Gordon, Sr. and wife, Shirley of Mount Vernon, Illinois; aunts, Tanya Gordon of Charleston, Illinois and Diane Warren of Indianapolis, Indiana; “special” son, Chaylon Rush of Indianapolis, Indiana; “special” brother, Tristan Rawls of Las Vegas, Nevada; “special” aunt-mom, Rose Fisher of Indianapolis, Indiana; “special” friend, Nicki Turner of Mount Vernon, Illinois; ex-husband, Cedric Mitchell of Caruthers, Missouri; and many aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gail is also survived by a host of members of the Turner family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leon McKinney of Chicago, Illinois;
aunts and uncle, Barbara Jones, Sandra Gordon, and Richard Gordon, Jr., all of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchild, Montrell Gordon; sister, LaMargaret “Dimples” Turner; and grandfather, Richard “Uncle Buck” Gordon, Sr.
Gail worked for A.C.S. for 18 years as a Loan Processor. She later worked for Addus Healthcare in Southern Illinois. She was a longtime member and faithful supporter of Southtown Apostolic Church in Mount Vernon. Gail served on the Usher Board, Past Appreciation Committee, and Women’s Auxiliary of Church. She was also a member of the Jefferson County Parent Action Team.
Gail enjoyed reading books and magazines and frequently traveled to Indianapolis to visit and spend time with her mother, children, sisters, grandchildren, and other family and friends.
Gail will always and forever be truly missed by all who loved her.
