CPS To Teach History Of Police Torture Scandal

(Chicago, IL) — Chicago Public Schools will soon make good on a promise and will offer a new course on the history of police torture under disgraced former Commander Jon Burge. Teachers are reviewing the curriculum for the three- to five-week course for tenth-graders that will be given district-wide starting next year. Under the terms of a multi-million-dollar reparations package approved by the city for Burge victims, school children will be taught about how Burge and the detectives working under him used brutal tactics to force false confessions from African-American suspects in the 1970s and ’80s.
