Centralia Police Investigate Fatal Overdose

(CENTRALIA, IL) — Centralia police are investigating an apparent fatal overdose Tuesday afternoon at a local convenience store. According to Centralia Police Chief Brian Atchison, officers were dispatched around 3:21 Tuesday afternoon to the Circle K store on East McCord on a report of a female having locked herself in the men’s restroom. However, after officers arrived on scene and made entry into the restroom, they discovered it was actually an unresponsive 30-year-old Centralia man locked in the restroom. The man, whose name is not being released at this time, was transported to SSM Health St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital where he was later declared dead. Atchison says his department has responded to a series of overdoses in recent days, starting with three suspected opiate overdoses on Sunday that were not fatal and then the fatal overdose Tuesday. He notes that the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
