(CENTRALIA, IL) — The City of Centralia has been named a 2016 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. Centralia achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. Join the City of Centralia’s Tree Board to Celebrate Arbor Day at 10:00 a.m. April 29th at the American Legion Pavilion in Fairview Park. Ceremonial tree planting at 10:30. The Tree Board will be giving away saplings that have been donated by Graphic Packing. There will be local businesses set up selling as well as giving advice on tree care, maintenance, tips and techniques.
