(BENTON, IL) — The Benton City Council Monday night turned down once again a motion to allow the city to issue pour licenses for gaming machines at local businesses. Commissioner Don Storey made the motion saying the city should do it, but Commissioners Dennis Miller, Ronnie Baumgarte and Don Wyant remained silent therefore letting the motion die. Before the vote was taken, Mayor Fred Kondritz made a short presentation regarding the economics of allowing pour licenses in Benton. The mayor’s presentation came following a presentation from Todd Jenney. He is the CEO of Martin and Bailey who operate Huck’s Convenience Stores. Jenney showed the council plans to put in gaming in the Huck’s location, next to Dairy Queen on North Main, if the city were to approve issuing pour licenses. Jenney says gaming would provide a good revenue source for the city and increase revenue from purchases made by customers visiting the stores. This is not the first time city leaders voted down allowing pour licenses. Last year, K&M Liquors wanted a pour license to allow gaming at their location on Illinois 37 North.
