Kentucky Man Charged With Meth Related Felonies

(SALEM, IL) — A 24-year-old Sturgis, Kentucky man has been charged in Marion County court with meth-related felonies after he was arrested over the weekend during a traffic stop. According to Centralia police, Michael A. Scherer was seen leaving a reputed drug house in Centralia. When Scherer failed to signal a traffic stop was performed in the 100 block of South Poplar Street. The Centralia K-9 Unit responded and the dog alerted on the car. A subsequent search reportedly revealed three tied-off baggies containing separately 25.5 grams, 28 grams, and .5 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Officers also reportedly located marijuana, digital scales with meth residue, drug pipes and other drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Scherer was formally charged in court Monday with Class X felony delivery of between 15 and 100 grams of meth, and Class 1 felony possession of between 15 and 100 grams of meth. He remains in the Marion County Jail with bail set at $100,000. He’s next due in court May 16, for a preliminary hearing.
