Mt. Vernon — Jefferson County reports tax revenue appears to have trended upward in the month of April.

Reports indicate that Thursday evening the County Fiscal Committee learned that Jefferson County claimed $571,269 in major tax revenue in April 2017.  This amount was up over $35,000 from the same period last year.

Jefferson County still faces a budget shortfall of $153,013 year-to-date. County Treasurer Dan Knox hopes that some of that amount can be made up by revenue from housing Cook County Inmates in the Jefferson County Justice Center. That revenue has already exceeded the projected amounts for the year.
