Illinois Unemployment Below Five-Percent, Jobs Still Scarce

(Springfield, IL)  —  Illinois’ unemployment rate is below five-percent for the first time in a decade. But not necessarily because more people are working. The state’s Department of Employment Security released the numbers yesterday. Illinois’ jobless rate is at its lowest point since May of 2007. But the report also shows the state still has 20-thousand fewer people working than in the fall of 2000.
