(MT. VERNON, IL) — The Mt. Vernon Township High School Board of Education says their FFA program deserves a new greenhouse, and at a cost of over $450,000, they’ll be getting one. The Board overrode an attempt to table the issue to the incoming board by a 5-2 vote last night at the board meeting. They then accepted a bid, also by a 5-2 vote, and awarded a contract to Shores Builders to construct the greenhouse complex at a cost of $454,052.00. The technology for the building, estimated to cost approximately $30,000, will be bid out soon. The plan calls for a 30 by 70 foot greenhouse and a 30 by 50 foot attached work center. This was the final regular meeting for the controversial board as there will be a special meeting held Thursday to swear in and seat the new board members and to elect new officers among other business.  That meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Board Room at the high school.
