(MT. VERNON, IL) — A 26-year-old Centralia man is in the Jefferson County Jail after law enforcement responded to a convenience store early Sunday morning on a report of an armed robbery. A short investigation resulted in the arrest of Ryan M. Stewart for alleged armed robbery. According to reports, around 2:57 a.m. Sunday, the Mt. Vernon police and Illinois State Police responded to the Huck’s Convenience Store at 1801 Benton Road in Mt. Vernon on a report of an armed robbery. Dispatch reports indicated a white male armed with a knife had robbed the store and fled on foot. While investigating the robbery, officers reportedly made contact with Stewart and after detectives were called to assist with further investigation Stewart was arrested He remains in the Jefferson County Jail to await the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
