(WEST FRANKFORT, IL) — The West Frankfort City Council Tuesday night passed an ordinance eliminating a loophole allowing people in custody or confinement to not pay medical or transportation costs. According to the West Frankfort Gazette, the ordinance now requires reimbursement to the city by persons in custody, confinement or incarceration for unpaid medical treatment and transportation expenses. Fire Chief Jody Allen told the paper that when the fire department transports them to the hospital, they aren’t getting paid. With this change to the ordinance, this will allow the fire department to bill patients through their insurance.
