(VANDALIA, IL) — Attorneys in the 2014 child pornography case against a 36-year-old Vandalia man confirmed Thursday that they are ready to proceed to trial later this month. Ryan Koontz is facing two Class X felony counts and eight Class 2 felony counts of possessing child pornography. He rejected a proposed plea agreement last month and instead has chosen to go to trial. Koontz was arrested in November 2014 as part of “Operation Glass House,” a statewide initiative launched in 2010 to apprehend the most active offenders who download and trade child pornography online. A Centralia man, Christopher Cook, was arrested the day before Koontz as part of the same operation. Cook was charged with 14 felony counts of possessing child pornography and pleaded guilty last year to two of the charges. He was ultimately sentenced to 40 years in prison – 20 years on each count to be served consecutively. Of the charges against Koontz, the two Class X felonies are punishable by between 6 and 30 years in prison and the eight Class 2 counts are punishable by between 3 and 7 years.
