Carmi – Illinois State Police (ISP) District 19 Commander, Captain Cory Ristvedt, announces the results of a Roadside Safety Check (RSC) held in Hamilton County from late night 04/08/2017 to early morning 04/09/2017. The RSC was conducted at Illinois Route 14 and Illinois Route 142 in McLeansboro, by District 19 officers. Authorities issued 8 total citations or arrests and 13 total written warnings including 3 insurance violations, 6 driver’s license offenses, 2 registration offenses, 2 occupant restraint offenses and an alcohol/drug citation. There were no DUI citations issued during this safety check. Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, and throughout the U.S., nearly 10,000 people die each year due to alcohol-impaired driving.  RSCs are designed to keep our roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road.  This project was funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
