Illinois Senate committee OKs immigrant protections

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois Senate Executive Committee has endorsed wide-ranging protections for immigrants which responds to President Donald Trump’s crackdown on people in the U.S. illegally. The plan by Senate President John Cullerton OK’d Wednesday would require federal immigration authorities to have a criminal warrant to enlist local police to seek an undocumented immigrant. Republicans are wary of turning a deaf ear to the feds.
