(MARION, IL) — A Herrin man is facing several charges in connection with a reported stabbing Monday night in Carterville. According to Carterville Police, officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 100 block of Van Wyck Square around 10:40 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old boy with a number of injuries. Police determined the suspect had left the scene.  Officers from Crainville, Energy, Cambria and Illinois State Police were able to help Carterville Police identify the suspect as 43-year-old Paul E. Jennings, who was found a short distance away. Jennings was taken into custody and taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center for a non-life threatening self-inflicted wound. After being released, Jennings was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery and aggravated assault and was lodged in the Williamson County Jail. The juvenile victim was initially treated at Herrin Hospital, and then transferred to a St. Louis Hospital for further treatment. Officers determined the injuries resulted from an altercation between acquaintances and no other suspects are being sought at this time. The investigation continues.
