Pershing Fire Victim Identified

(PERSHING, IL) — We now know who died in that Tuesday night house fire in Pershing. According to Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler, 59-year-old Gay Vaughn of West Frankfort died in the fire around 10:40 at the home located in the 10000 block of North Gass Street. The cause of death has not been released at this time. Shortly before 9, West Frankfort firefighters got the call about the fire. When they arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames. Several area fire departments were called in to help fight and put out the blaze. The home was a total loss. No one else was at home when the fire started. It’s unknown what caused the fire at this time. The state fire marshal is investigating. West Frankfort Fire Chief Jody Allen says more details will be released as they become available.
