Government’s $45M health fraud case unravels over evidence

CHICAGO (AP) — A $45 million health fraud trial has unraveled in Chicago federal court after it emerged prosecutors didn’t’ turn over vital grand-jury transcripts to the defense and mischaracterized other evidence. The two main defendants, Richard and Maribel Tinimbang, pleaded guilty to lesser charges Wednesday. The Tinimbangs had been facing the prospect of many years behind bars. Now, he’s likely to spend just a few months in prison and she’ll likely avoid it entirely.
