(MT. VERNON, IL) — As a result of recent actions by the City of Mt. Vernon to impose a water fee to outlying areas, four rural water districts in the county have now come together to form an alliance. The Jefferson County Rural Water Association is composed of Belle Rive, Bluford, Northeast Water Company, and Woodlawn. The group formed in response to the February move by the Mt. Vernon City Council to charge a capital improvement fee to rural water districts it aids in serving. The association plans to meet at 6 p.m. on April 13th at Mt. Vernon Outland Airport. The new association will be chaired by Bluford Mayor Mike Bullard with Northeast Water Company Board member Dwight Timmons as treasurer and Khristi Spurlock as secretary.
