(SALEM, IL) — A 49-year-old homeless Centralia man was arrested Tuesday after a woman reported he broke into her home on East 16th Street in Centralia. According to Centralia police, Michael Thompson had been hallucinating early Tuesday morning that people were chasing him down the railroad tracks. Thompson then allegedly went to the 16th Street home where the woman said he was banging on her door and then broke a window and crawled into the house. Centralia police responded to the woman’s 911 call and upon their arrival Thompson was still reportedly inside the home. Thompson allegedly told police he was under the influence of methamphetamine and broke into the home to get a drink. He was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail. He has been formally charged in Marion County court with Class 4 felony criminal trespass to a residence and misdemeanor criminal damage to property.
