(MT. VERNON, IL) — The city of Mt. Vernon has received an $18,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to be used towards converting downtown lighting to LED. The grant was awarded to the city with no match required and includes incentives and services for municipalities aimed at lowering overall energy costs. LED lights also provide a longer life, enhance visibility, decreases pollution, and contain no disposable hazards.
