CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — A group of Southern Illinois University students is capturing life in the community of Carbondale for a new photo book. The Southern Illinoisan reports students will begin the project this weekend. SIU School of Journalism Associate Professor Mark Dolan says students are expected to be shooting photos “from sunrise Friday through sunset Sunday.” Dolan’s classes have documented similar weekends in DuQuoin, Union County and Murphysboro. But Dolan says “Carbondale is too big for one weekend.” He says students also will photograph a weekend in the summer and this fall. Carbondale Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Les O’Dell says he’s approached Dolan several times about a Carbondale book. He says the books will be “the perfect way to celebrate” the chamber’s 100th year of existence in 2017.
