(CENTRALIA, IL) — A 36-year-old man known to be from Cape Girardeau, Mo., but reporting he is homeless in Centralia, was arrested Thursday night on drug and weapons charges following a traffic stop. Brooks Sides, who was initially booked as Brooks Joseph, was arrested for alleged possession of cannabis, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of between 15 and 100 grams of meth, and driving while under the influence. Sides was initially arrested on an outstanding Missouri warrant, which led to a search of Sides and his vehicle. The search of Sides reportedly revealed a pair of brass knuckles, and five small baggies of a leafy green substance. $1,880 in cash was found in his wallet and was seized as part of the investigation. The search of the vehicle reportedly revealed a cellphone box in the center console of the car containing two plastic baggies with what was weighed out to be 99 grams of a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. A bottle containing multiple narcotic pills was reportedly discovered in the glove box.
