(Belleville, IL) — Belleville’s Republican city clerk Dallas Cook wants the Illinois Supreme Court to take up his complaint about the way three Democratic circuit court judges are trying to keep their jobs. Rather than run for retention and face a 60-percent majority requirement, the three resigned and then filed to run in the Democratic primary for those same seats. A primary victory would require only a simple majority and their wins in the general election would be almost certain. Cook wants the high court to overrule a Springfield judge’s decision upholding the unusual maneuver.
