BCMW Announces Cuts Due To Budget Impasse

(CENTRALIA, IL) — Reduced state funding along with the budget impasse have again hit close to home, forcing one area agency to close a location and reduce operations at others. BCMW announced Thursday that effective Monday, its Kinmundy Project B.R.E.A.D. location will close its doors and the Centralia location will no longer be open on Wednesdays. Area senior citizens who usually depend on the program for a nutritional noon meal will no longer receive a meal on Wednesdays. Also starting Monday, seniors who receive home delivered meals from Project Bread will now only receive four meals a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. These changes, says the agency, are a direct result of reduced state funding overall and the state budget impasse. BCMW will also reduce hours at its Salem site. The agency is hopeful that the reduction in hours will only be temporary. Project B.R.E.A.D. is a nutritional program providing a well-balanced noon meal for senior citizens. B.R.E.A.D. is an acronym for Basic Right of the Elderly to an Adequate Diet, and Project Bread helps senior citizens maintain their physical health by providing essential nutrients at the noon meal.
