(BENTON, IL) — Benton now has a tourism board. The Benton City Council approved Monday night amending an ordinance stating the city can create certain boards and commissions. Five members will make up the tourism board. Those members will have to live in the city and be appointed by the mayor. They will serve on the board for four years or as designated by the council at the time of their appointment. Mayor Fred Kondritz appointed his wife, Kaye Kondritz, to a three-year term and Pam Appleton to a one-year term. Board members will not be paid. Other board members will be appointed in the future. Dates for tourism board meetings have not been set up at this time, but meetings will be open to the public.
