(BENTON, IL) — After going into executive session Monday night to discuss the Benton Police Chief opening, The Benton City Council took no action on the issue. The police chief position opened up after Mike Andrews resigned during a special called city council meeting on Feb. 18. Andrews resigned so he could become an investigator again with the police department. City leaders at that time named Kyle Melvin acting chief. Melvin will serve in this role until the city names a new chief. It’s unknown at this time when the city council will start searching for a new police chief.
