ANNA, Ill. (AP) — A southern Illinois police chief has resigned after he discussed an open criminal investigation into a home invasion and robbery on the department’s Facebook page. Anna Chief Scott Rice tells the (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan that his resignation is not related to social media comments in which he suggested the robbery victims had brought the crime onto themselves by growing marijuana in their home. The chief’s 1,200-word account followed a two-part YouTube video made by one of the victims that criticizes the police response. Rice says he consulted with the Union County state’s attorney before posting the message. Rice removed the Facebook page hours after it was published. Rice joined the department one year ago after serving 24 years with the Illinois State Police.
