(MT. VERNON, IL) — Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies took to the water Wednesday morning, fishing a stolen SUV out of the water at the Belle Rive strip mines. According to the sheriff’s office, the vehicle was reported stolen Tuesday. At first, just a piece of metal was visible above the water. A deputy brought out his boat and was able to identify it as a vehicle. A tow truck was called in to pull it from the water. The investigation into the theft of the black SUV is being handled by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, which says they have a few suspects in the theft.
