(MT. VERNON, IL) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a welcomed surprise Tuesday, when an anonymous, private organization sent them a large check that will allow the sheriff’s office to purchase a K-9 and much more. According to Sheriff Travis Allen, the check for over $70,000 will allow his department to not only purchase the K-9, but also the dog’s required training, and a fully-outfitted 2016 Chevy Tahoe. Allen says his office applied to the organization a few months ago for a K-9 grant. He says the K-9, its training and the vehicle will “greatly assist” his department’s proactive approach on drug activity in Jefferson County. He also issued a warning to drug dealers, saying, “If you think the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has cracked down on crime and drugs, we have only just begun.”
