(FLORA, IL) — The Flora Police Department has announced it will conduct a state-mandated police training exercise Friday at the Flora Grade School. In conjunction with Unit 35 School District, the police department will conduct an “intruder alert” drill at the school and anyone observing multiple squad cars and a large police presence at the school should not be alarmed. The training will consist of emergency operation plans developed by the school district and law enforcement to further enhance policies and procedures in the event of an actual intruder emergency. Students will NOT be involved in the training exercise, according to a press release sent out by the police department. Similar to fire and extreme weather drills, the intruder alert drill is mandated by the state, and according to Police Chief John Nicholson, will enable law enforcement and district officials to be better prepared for all emergencies and form a cooperative working relationship.
