(WEST FRANKFORT, IL) — The Frankfort CUSD #168 Board of Education will hold a special meeting tonight to discuss and vote on a tentative contract with the district’s teachers. The meeting will start at 6 at the Unit Office, located at 900 N. Cherry Street. Teachers have not had a contract since August, and negotiations for a new contract didn’t start until a month later. Their dispute is over teacher pay saying teachers have accepted minimal raises and younger teachers have given up a “step” pay increase in their contracts. The West Frankfort Federation of Teachers Local 817 and representatives from the school board have met several times to discuss the issue. The union has filed an intent to strike notice with local, regional and state officials, and teachers could go on strike if this issue is not resolved.
