EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is seeing record enrollment this spring, while numbers are down or holding steady at community colleges in the Metro East region. The Belleville News-Democrat reports SIUE enrolled 13,346 undergraduate and graduate students spring semester. That’s the highest in the school’s history, and an increase from 13,178 enrolled in spring semester 2015. SIUE Interim Chancellor Stephen Hansen says the numbers reflect a “tireless effort” by faculty and staff to achieve recruitment goals. Officials also credited big increases in online and international student enrollment. Meanwhile. Southwestern Illinois College saw a decrease in enrollment. Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey doesn’t have final numbers yet but a spokeswoman predicts enrollment will be “pretty flat” compared with last spring.
