Rauner Pushing Chicago School Takeover

(Chicago, IL) — Governor Bruce Rauner wants the state to take over the Chicago Public Schools and he’s now directed the Illinois Board of Education to find out how it can be done. Rauner said Tuesday he’s directed the board to see if CPS would meet the criteria for a state takeover under the Illinois laws that now exempt Chicago from a state takeover. Rauner also asked the board to look for possible new superintendents for Chicago schools, but he hasn’t explained how he’d win passage of the bill to allow Chicago schools to be taken over by the state.
